Imagine that, two schools as rich in football history as the Buckeyes and the Longhorns, and yet they had never once squared off in football. True, Ohio State was 27-3-1 against Big 12 schools prior to meeting UT, and they has a 20-2-2 record against schools from the state of Texas. But will all of the great players who had played for both schools, anyone lucky enough to buy passes to the 2005 game between the Longhorns and the Buckeyes got to see college football history as the two schools stepped onto the field as opponents for the very first time.

A classic, as you would expect from two schools that entered the contest ranked in the top five in the Associated Press poll at the time. Texas took a 10-0 first quarter lead thanks to a David Pino field goal and a Vince Young touchdown pass. But the Buckeyes came charging back, tying it 10-10 in midway through the second quarter following a Josh Huston kick and a Santonio Holmes TD reception. Two more Huston field goals and another from Pino capped off the first-half scoring, with Ohio State leading 16-13. The Buckeyes expanded their lead in the third, and Texas trailed by eight with time running out in the final period. But with just over two minutes left, Young threw his second scoring strike of the day, and when all was said and done, the No. 2 Longhorns emerged with a 25-22 victory. A true classic, to be sure. Did somebody say "rematch?"
